Naboth’s Vineyard, ‘A Dramatic Madrigal’
by
Alexander Goehr.
Naboth’s Vineyard forms the first part of Alexander Goehr’s music theatre triptych which includes Shadowplay-2 and Sonata about Jerusalem and were composed between 1968 and 1970. They were written for a small ensemble of an actor, two mimes, five singers and an instrumental group.
Laelia attended rehearsals to take photographs, as she frequently did for many other performers and composers. Most of the photos presented here were never printed and have been developed from the negatives. The majority are of Naboth’s Vineyard and the others of Shadowplay-2.
